About Kahawa Sukari

Kahawa Sukari is a beautiful sub urban housing estate located about 20km from the city of Nairobi, in Kenya. It is off Thika Road and Opposite Kenyatta University.

The land on which Kahawa Sukari Estate sits was formerly owned by the Kenyatta family. The transformation that has occurred since residents came in and started putting up their "dream homes" and settling in, is enormous . The once open savanna land with hardly any trees is a far cry from the present lush green landscapes that greet the eye as you approach the estate.

Look at the contrast between the land under housing and the land across the small river that borders the estate. The whole place used to be "bare" like the forefront on the picture.

Kudos to the residents for being environmentally conscious!!

The estate is under controlled development and therefore you only find mainly "dream homes" and not apartments. There also quite a number of schools - both primary and secondary, and churches inside the estate.

There is a business center at the entrance to the estate which is growing quite fast. It has a good number of high rise buildings (hmmm... 5 stories), and others still coming up. Businesses including, an Engen Petrol Station, a supermarket, drycleaner, gym, wellness center, medical clinics, chemists, bookshop, garages, Coca Cola depot, timber yards, grocery stores, among many others, have been set up . New businesses spring up all the time as construction of new premises continues.

The estate is also very strategically placed with Kenyatta University just across the road (Thika Road), Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUT) a short distance away (at Juja), and KCA university also not very far off.

Kahawa Sukari and the surrounding areas are the places to watch now as we await the modernisation of Thika Road with the construction of four lanes on each side. The project is already in progress.

The Eastern bypass which will link Mombasa Road to Ruiru-Kiambu Road will be an added advantage. It will be very easy to move from Mombasa Road to Thika Road.
Still on roads, I cannot fail to mention the upgrading of the main avenue in Kahawa Sukari which is being tarmaced.
The jams encountered all hours of the day towards Nairobi City will be history. Working in the city and living in Kahawa Sukari will now be enjoyable. It will now be possible to wake up at six as opposed to being on the road at six.

Unprecedented growth is also expected around this area.

A few other housing estates have already come up like Membley - across Thika Road just after Kenyatta University, KU Boma on Gatundu Road, many beautiful apartments in Kasarani and Wendani, etc.

The population is very diverse as far as age is concerned. Quite a good number of families have young adults still living with their parents as they go through college. Younger families with primary and kindergarten age children are also well represented.In general the homes are big family homes.

There is also a significant percentage of the retired living and working from their homes in the estate. Some are living on their own after their children started working and relocated to places nearer the city or their places of work.
